Why I am proud to be an Indian?
India is a sub-continental size country. Its hugeness lies not only in size of its territory but also visible in its humongous population, big size of its economy, great diversity of culture, large number of public institutions and many more. Being an Indian, I am proud of people of my nation who makes this country versatile. I respectfully call them nation builders.
Nation builders are those who create a sense of being together. This togetherness motivate people to work for cause of the nation. The contribution of people towards national interest can be direct or indirect. Their roles range from guarding the borders of its territory to setting up a small cottage industry. They can either become businessmen/women or can cook at home. They can win medals for country by winning sports competitions or can run panchayats for good rural governance. They can cultivate grains by their labour in fields or can harvest citizens with high morality by teaching in schools, colleges. All such contributors build my nation. Their hard work, intelligence and philanthropy constitute the first source of respect in my heart for my nation.
Let us explore some other aspects of being proud to be an Indian.
. Democracy
India is the largest democracy of world. Since independence, even after facing bloody partition, India maintained its democracy. It gave voting rights to every adult citizen irrespective of caste, color, religion, gender, property, educational qualification or status at the very first elections.
Space Technology
The space agency of country, ISRO has set up series of satellites which are being used for remote sensing and communication. They have a number of applications like resource mapping, navigation, disaster management and for use by armed forces. The commercial arm of ISRO also provides space services to other countries which brings enormous revenue. Recently India has successfully shot down its own satellite to demonstrate its Ant-satellite power under Mission Shakti. Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has already launched interplanetary missions namely Mangalyaan and Chandrayaan. It is planning to launch Gaganyaan in near future which will be the first human flight in space by India.

Great Philosophies
This land is mother of great thinkers like Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar and many more. Gandhi’s philosophy of truth, non-violence and satyagrah brought national freedom and even applicable in today’s world. Anna Hazare followed same ideology for enactment of “Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013”. Dr. B. R. Ambedkar drafted the constitution of India which percolated great ideas of governance in Indian governance system.
Respect for Humankind
India is an active participant of UN peacekeeping missions and served in 43 such missions. Its philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”* encourages it to save and serve all humans and even other living beings. Recently Indian peacekeepers have been awarded medals of honour for their service and sacrifice in UN mission in South Sudan.
*"Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" - World is a family.
Nuclear Power
India is a responsible nuclear power. The effortful achievement of nuclear power by India is really appreciable but our great leaders made a responsible nuclear policy of NO FIRST USE. Even during difficult times of Kargil war, this weapon was not used. The country is harnessing nuclear power for peaceful purpose of fulfilling its energy needs.
Judiciary
Indian judiciary has taken tough decision in case of Raj Narain Versus Indira Gandhi. The landmark judgement in case of Kesavnanda Bharati vs State of Kerala 1973 built the concept of “Basic Structure Doctrine” which prevents any authority to alter ideology of Indian constitution.
Diaspora
Indians are working in other countries and engaged in number of jobs and sending remittances back to home. India is the largest receiver of remittances.
Armed Forces
Indian armed forces rank 4th in world as per Global Firepower Index.
Tourism
India has great tourist potential due to its vast and beautiful natural features of Himalayas, Western ghats, oceans and also attractive architectural features of its monuments like Taj Mahal. It aspires to develop tourist circuits for specific target tourists like Ramayan circuit, Krishna circuit, Tribal circuit etc.
The list of reasons of proud is never ending and I wish it keeps on increasing.
